Suwannee River Challenge

The Suwannee Challenge is the longest single day canoe / kayak race in Florida.

The course is roughly 50 mile long course from Fargo, GA to White Springs, FL and it covers the upper Suwannee River. This is some of the least developed river shore line in the state. From start to finish the paddler will see very few homes along this stretch of the Suwannee River.

Big Shoals provides the only class III whitewater in Florida. The shoals is clearly marked for portaging.

Water levels on race day vary greatly from year to year, but most paddlers will finish this course in 12 hours or less.

Support crews (bank runners) are allowed and encouraged for this event. Racers should study maps of the area to find the most convenient places for your bank runners to check on your progress and resupply you with food and drink.

There are classes for most paddle craft, but only those canoes and kayaks that are fast enough to complete the course in 12 hours or less should be considered.

American Canoe Adventures located in White Springs, FL is the host for this event. They can provide a shuttle early on race day from White Springs to Fargo for a small fee. Without them this race would not be possible. Check their web site for entry information and a map of the river. http://www.aca1.com
